MAHINA Fountain Pen, BUNGUBOX x Eboya Friendship Pen
In celebration of BUNGUBOX's 15th Annivresary,
We have collaborated with Eboya on our second project in 7 years!
Based on Eboya's Nalu ("Wave" in Hawaiian) fountain pen,
it is a three part series representing the magical interconnection between the moon and the waves.
Chapter 1: New Moon (MUKU): The Sign of Beginnings
Chapter 2: Half Moon (OLE): The Calm of Still Waters
Chapter 3: Full Moon (HOKU): The Light of Fulfillment
We asked Eboya (Nikko Ebonite), the sole ebonite manufacturer in Japan, to create three different barrels to represent the different surfaces of the ocean affected by the moon phases.
Using their advanced manipulation skills, they mixed the same 4 colors of ebonite in three different ways, successfully creating three distinct wave patterns (Nalu) to bring our storyline to life!
Of course, on the finial is a Wajima Maki-e rendition of the moon by our master artist Takuya Hino, three different renditions for the three phases of the moon.
The subtle sprinkling of gold dust around the rims add to the elegance of the pieces.

We have beautifully channeled the world of the waves (Nalu), driven by the power of these lunar phases, into these fountain pens.

In the depths of profound darkness, it is the moment right before light is born. The intricately mingled patterns of the ebonite barrel symbolize the pulse of life stirring within the dark sea and the energy of a story about to begin.

Chapter 2: Half Moon (OLE): The Calm of Still Waters
A calm night, as if the moon, half-full, has paused to steady its breath. The barrel’s muted, uniform marble pattern evokes the surface of a still sea, just like a mirror. Enjoy a meditative writing experience, where the supple touch of ebonite and the silence of "nothingness" meet at your fingertips.
Chapter 3: Full Moon (HOKU) - The Light of Fulfillment
A blissful moment, as the full moon, high in the heavens, illuminates every corner of the vast ocean. This piece features a barrel of rich blue gradations, capturing the essence of moonlight piercing the silent sea and a path of light gently unfurling across the waves. The luster of the masterfully polished ebonite radiates a “perfected beauty,” bringing an air of profound elegance to your fingertips.
